When the river runs dry

16/03/26

We are officially entering drought territory, and nowhere is that more apparent in my work than in this small handful of photos taken at Yarrowyck Crossing Reserve—a location that, on both of my previous visits, featured a flowing river (the Gwydir River, to be exact). Now, it’s little more than a sandy bed with occasional pools of water filled with little more than algae.

I can’t say I got much in the way of shots on this particular afternoon, and neither did Evelyn, who was joining me—mainly because neither of us expected the place to be dry as a bone when we decided to visit. It was kind of cool being able to walk so far downstream with ease and see how the environment changed, but on the flip side, it really doesn’t bode well for the coming summer…
