Black Gully Festival 2025

08/11/25

Armidale’s Black Gully Festival is back again, and this year, rather than showing up in the mid-afternoon when things had quietened down, I decided to make the most of the day and arrive somewhat earlier. The weapon of choice was the Canon R8 with the Sigma 85mm f/1.4, a combo I’m keen to experiment with more, especially now that I have a decent ND filter.

I don’t know that I actually got all that many great photos, but I feel like I bumped into almost everyone I know in the area. The event was packed, and I spent far more time chatting with people than I did actually taking shots. That’s not really a complaint though, photography at events has long been a big part of my social life.

It was great finally seeing The Rocky Bottom Girls play, as I’ve worked with several members of the band on other projects over the past couple of years. And it’s always fun to see Oh Ma Soul perform, a duo I think I’ve taken more photos of than any other performers in the region. All in all, it was a pretty fantastic day out, even if I may have accidentally gotten a tiny bit sunburned…
