The Glen Innes Cup

10/01/26

We’re only a couple of weeks into the new year, and already I’m working on projects unlike any event I’ve ever worked on before, case in point, the Glen Innes Cup. I’m not someone who would normally attend such an event; my only real experience with horse racing was listening in while my grandfather followed the races through almost impossible-to-decipher AM radio static.

The event itself was huge, with absolutely tonnes of people. The sun was cooking like you wouldn’t believe (never underestimate that high-country UV), and alongside the horses, it was a great opportunity to capture people having a good time in a casual setting. Once the booze was flowing, I didn’t even have to ask groups for photos, they were asking me, which is exactly how I like it.

The bright conditions weren’t exactly easy to work with, and despite having three cameras on me (and Peacock Photography there for assistance), we only had one ND filter to share. I don’t really know what else to say, I had a wonderful day, got some photos I’m pretty happy with despite the subjects being well outside my usual wheelhouse, met some fantastic people, and didn’t even get sunburnt in the process. What better way could there be to spend a Saturday afternoon?
