Video: UNE - Tullimba Smart Farm

Filmed between November 2024 and January 2025, this showcase video for Tullimba was commissioned by the University of New England to highlight the continual evolution of its feedlot research facilities.

Tullimba is a world-class feedlot research facility, designed to provide research and training opportunities that enhance the international competitiveness of the Australian beef industry.

The facility uses GrowSafe feeders to monitor individual animal feed intake, enabling the calculation of breeding values for feed efficiency in beef cattle. A recent expansion has added 16 new GrowSafe feeders, along with In-Pen Weighing systems, to increase capacity for feed efficiency research and testing.

GreenFeed units are used to measure methane emissions from individual animals. Utilised by industry professionals, researchers, and commercial beef producers, Tullimba supports investigations into feed efficiency, behaviour, animal welfare, and feedlot management.

Tullimba is also home to a 1,300 ML dam with a large irrigation licence, supporting research into grazing and forage production.

Trade and breeding cattle run on pasture at Tullimba also provide a valuable resource for grazing beef production research.

Recent upgrades include the addition of a grain tempering plant and computerised feed-out wagons, improving the efficiency of feed mixing and overall animal performance.

Further infrastructure upgrades and a licence expansion are currently in planning, aimed at broadening the scope of research at Tullimba.
