Campus to City Canter 2026

21/03/26

I’m not really known for sports photography—it’s not something I have much experience with, and I can’t say it’s something I spend much of my free time engaging with—but what does an event like the Campus to City Canter need if not event coverage? The Campus to City Canter is a fun run (or walk, depending on how you approach it) that starts at the SportUNE Consett Davis Sporting Fields and follows the cycleway into the heart of town, finishing at Civic Park.

I thought the time it would take people to run the 5km would give me plenty of opportunity to capture shots at the start while still making it to the finish line in time to photograph the winners… what a fool I was. Despite being driven and dropped off at the finish line, I essentially had to race the winner—and even though I beat them, I still missed the shot.

As exhausting as it all was, it was fun doing something so far outside my usual wheelhouse, especially for such a good cause and with the chance to bump into so many familiar faces. It sounds like I’ll be invited back to cover the event again next year—let’s see if I can apply what I’ve learned.
