THE CASCADE PROJECT: VOL II
01/04/26
In some ways, I find it hard to believe, but work on the Cascades Project continues, with my second model being Lisa, a frequent collaborator. This is her second time modelling specifically for me, so it feels fitting that she’s also the second subject for this project. Just like last time, we took the Cascade Trail in New England National Park, but after a couple of dry months, the environment wasn’t nearly as damp. Combined with shorter days, it made for a very different lighting situation compared to my previous shoot.
As before, everything was shot on my Canon R8 fitted with a vintage Nikkor 85mm f/1.8, mostly wide open (with a few shots at f/2.8) due to the low light on the forest floor. That dreamy feeling has carried through again, and I love how these images have turned out.
Lisa was ever the professional—her experience on stage really showed in how naturally she followed the light without direction, bringing both energy and serenity to every shot. She’s always incredible to work with, and I think that shows in the large collection of images we captured.
As we head into winter, the days are getting shorter, and with drought setting in, I’m not sure I’ll be able to wrap up this project the way I’d hoped. I have at least one more model confirmed—frequent collaborator and fellow photographer Amy—along with a couple of other potential subjects, but now it’s a race against time and the weather.
