Nudes by Candle Light

09/08/25

Sometimes you think you’re simply heading to someone’s home to enjoy some lovely homemade pizza, and then that’s followed by a surprise request to try some low-light art nudes. I mean, sure, why not? I wasn’t exactly prepared when the idea was suggested, but I did manage to capture a few images that I think turned out alright, all things considered. The model requested anonymity, so I’m only sharing a very limited set of photos here.

Their home had a very long hallway on the top floor, and this was the first space we tried to leverage. I’m no expert when it comes to posing, and it shows, but I think the actual lighting and silhouette concept came out pretty strong, especially given the tight space. If we do this again, I’ll definitely bring a book with some poses for inspiration.

We then moved downstairs to one of their spare rooms. It was completely dark, so it was perfect for trying some candlelight photography. Honestly, given these shots were handheld, I think they came out pretty well, at least as a proof of concept. It’s definitely an idea I’d like to revisit.

One of these images might even make it into my portfolio…

While I’ve no doubt I’ll be able to take this photo again in the future, and take it better, I don’t know, there’s just something about this one in particular that I really vibe with. Maybe it’s all the negative space? That’s something I’m becoming increasingly interested in focusing on in my work. I guess we’ll see if it makes the final ten at the end of the year.

If you’re reading this and it’s something you’d be interested in trying yourself, please feel free to shoot me an email! It’s definitely something I’d like to continue experimenting with and improving on.
