Walcha Motorcycle Rally 2025
16/11/25
Yesterday I made it out to the Walcha Motorcycle Rally with my family. My dad and I had originally planned to ride out and take part in the street parade and show and shine, but with wet weather surrounding the event, he decided it was best to drive down from the Northern Rivers instead.
My wife and I never pass up the opportunity to head out to Walcha, and we always end up coming home with something, either from local artisans, the markets, or The Big Black Building, and yesterday, as always, the town was full of the absolute kindest and chillest people you could ever hope to meet.
It really was a fantastic day and a brilliant event, and it was great getting to talk to so many people and to casually take photos of things I don't normally get the chance to (I even managed to snag a portfolio shot).
We had trouble believing the news about what happened last night at the event once we arrived home, especially after having such an amazing day. Walcha is a small town, and I can only imagine how much last night has shaken the area to its core. Our thoughts go out to all of those involved.
And here is one for the portfolio.
When people ask me what sort of photographer I am, or what it is that I love about photography, this is exactly the kind of image that sits at the core of why I do what I do. Just documenting two guys sitting in silence, yet so in tune with each other that I can only assume they were communicating telepathically. I shot this in the show-and-shine area, we never spoke, but they gave me a nod after I took the shot, and I didn’t even realise they knew I was photographing them. I could have shot this on any camera with any lens; what matters to me is the people, and while I don’t know these guys’ story, this image makes me want to.
