Christmas in the Highlands - Illuminations
29/11/25
The support for my work from Glen Innes Council continues, this time with an invitation to cover the annual Christmas in the Highlands event, an occasion which, as the name suggests, is a celebration of the Christmas season in the Glen Innes high country. Where could be better to celebrate? Unlike the Australian Celtic Festival earlier in the year, this was my first time attending this particular event.
What made this event a little different from previous offerings was the inclusion of a light festival component, hence the āIlluminationsā in the title. What made it especially exciting for me was that I wasnāt just covering the event, my short film Fly Away Home, released last Christmas, was also being projected as part of the program, on the side of a public toilet no less. I canāt imagine a better home for the film.
The event itself was fantastic. There was a really big crowd spread across a fairly large area, and I did struggle at times to capture everything I needed in both video and photography, it probably would have benefited from a two-person team. That said, it didnāt stop me from having an awesome, if exhausting, time, and Iām very much looking forward to continuing to work with Glen Innes Council into the future.
