Sticky Date Pudding

28/02/26

It’s always a good time to try new ideas, or maybe revisit some old ones. Saturday gave me the perfect opportunity to return to a very old project I hadn’t touched since 2023: my “Home Movies” series. With both my parents and nephews around, it also felt like a great chance to practise some portraits, something I’m trying to improve at.

Little did I know the sticky date pudding cake my wife had made the night before would impact my ability to do either particularly well. It turns out photography is often easier when you’re hungry rather than completely full. Still, I managed to pull something together, and while I can’t say I love the portrait results (it’s tricky when two subjects don’t want to be there and one wants to be there a little too much), it was still a valuable practice experience.
