Drawn From Pain, Written From Truth

Visitors From Dreams was invited to capture the opening night of Amera Ali and Suad Smo’s deeply personal exhibition Drawn From Pain, Written From Truth at the New England Regional Art Museum through both photography and film. The confronting artwork served as a powerful reminder of the difference between violence as entertainment and art created from lived experience, pain, and self-expression.

The Big Chill Festival 2026

After unexpectedly shooting the Big Chill Festival for The Rocky Bottom Girls, I stuck around to photograph the headliners using a pair of vintage 1970s Nikon lenses—an experiment that resulted in plenty of misses, but a few shots I absolutely love. Between the chaotic manual focusing, the live music, and seeing acts like Sneaky Sound System and The Presets, it ended up being an unforgettable night.

Nundle Dog Race 2026

This year’s Nundle Dog Races felt more like a relaxed holiday, shooting light with just a 24mm lens and focusing on enjoying the day with family and dogs. The photos were hit-and-miss, but the vibes were great—and that’s what it’s really all about.

Sanctuary At The Waters Edge

Sanctuary at the Water's Edge is Visitors From Dreams second collaboration with Uniplan and the first to take a documentary approach, telling the story behind the Turtle Sands holiday park on the Bundaberg coastline. Armidale Show 2026

This year I decided to enter the Armidale Show photography competition, submitting 10 images across 10 themes, an experience that involved a lot more trimming, mounting, and trial-and-error than expected. Even though I was running on fumes after a hectic couple of days, I still managed to capture a few moments from the show that I really liked. Despite only taking home one win, it was a valuable experience, and it was great to see others in my circle do so well.

Sticky Date Pudding

I revisited my long-dormant “Home Movies” project over the weekend while also taking the chance to practise some portraits with family. A little too much sticky date pudding made the creative process harder than expected, proving photography is sometimes easier on an empty stomach. Even if the results weren’t perfect, it was a fun and valuable return to experimenting.

Plum Jam

Ahead of shooting my short film Trolley Town, I needed a quick way to test two vintage lenses from the late ’60s and early ’70s for video. Making jam for the first time turned out to be the perfect low-stakes excuse to put them through their paces.

What Makes Our Furniture Special?

My first collaboration with Timberline takes viewers behind the scenes of their Armidale factory, combining elegant black-and-white cinematography with selective colour to showcase the craftsmanship behind their bathroom vanities. It was a pleasure working with such an enthusiastic local team, and I hope it's the first of many projects together.

Boots On The Ground

Boots on the Ground marked my first collaboration with Uniplan, capturing both photography and video for the company's first marketing campaign aimed at the agricultural sector. Shot over three days in Griffith, NSW, the production revolved around an incredibly tight sunrise shooting window, making for a fast-paced but rewarding project.
