Nundle Dog Race 2026

03/05/26

It’s Nundle Dog Races time again, and this year I wanted to treat it more like a holiday—especially after how draining the previous day’s shoot in Glen Innes was. All I brought with me was my wife, our two dogs, and my old Canon 200D with the EF-S 24mm f/2.8—far from ideal for dog races, but small enough to fit neatly in my shoulder bag. Shooting at 24mm really forces you to think creatively, and while I get more misses than hits, the hits tend to feel more rewarding than with my other lenses.

It ended up being a lot warmer than either of us expected, but the vibes were great. Snickers and George both entered two races—though Snickers only finished one—and neither of them won anything, but that’s not really what the day is about. It’s about seeing and patting as many dogs as possible.

It’s also about heading to the Peel Inn for an absolutely killer pub meal—they never miss—but that meal is long gone now, so you’ll just have to enjoy the photos and video from the day’s activities.
